My Top 5 Benches and Daybeds
I bought this Moller bench from Great Dane Furniture a few years ago. I had been eyeing this classic bench for a while because we had a stairway landing that I knew it would be perfect for. So on a trip to Melbourne I bought it and then carefully wrapped it in bubble wrap on my parents living room floor and gave it to my husband to bring back on the aeroplane. It still goes down as one of the larger items we (read: my husband) have carried through an airport. And I have been in love with this bench since.
In our previous home it filled the space on the landing perfectly – and in our new home it sits at the end of the living area, dressing what would otherwise be a blank wall and anchoring the artwork that hangs above. And that’s the thing with benches and daybeds, they are extremely versatile pieces of furniture that can fit almost anywhere in your home. Choose timeless, elegant design classics that will forever be on-trend and you can’t go wrong. Here are my pick for stylish, beautifully crafted benches and daybeds that will stand the test of time.
1. Nomi Bench
The smallest bench on this list, what this bench lacks in size it makes up for in simple styling and beautiful joinery. Made of solid oak this bench is the perfect size for apartment living or dressing a stairway or entrance. Practical, versatile and affordable. countryroad.com.au
2. Moller Bench #63
The Moller bench #63 is a Danish design classic with finely crafted legs and a woven paper cord seat – and obviously one of my favourites! It comes in oak, walnut and black stained oak. It is also surprisingly light so is easy to move around from room to room. greatdanefurniture.com.au
3. Nelson Platform Bed
I adore the design of this platform bed and very nearly bought it for the new house. It comes in three lengths with either the aluminium legs or ebonised wood. It is also low enough to be a coffee table. This is a true classic that will always look great. hermanmiller.com / livingedge.com.au
4. Ole Wanscher 150 Daybed
The Ole Wanscher 150 daybed is another piece I have been lusting after for a while. The leather mattress (which also comes in fabric) almost floats above the timber frame. With clean lines and a timeless design appeal – I would place this daybed front and centre in a living room or entrance. carlhansen.com / spacefurniture.com.sg
5. Daybed Four
A sturdier timber base boasting beautiful joinery topped with a clean simple mattress and bolster. Made in the UK, the Daybed Series 4 comes in oak or ash and the mattress and bolster are made from organically certified and sustainable material. A beautiful addition to any living room or entrance. anothercountry.com
