My October Edit

I was recently back in Melbourne and while I was there I had a day shopping with one of my best friends. I feel like my October edit says something about the life I lead. While I am somewhat (potentially, desperately) in need of some new clothes for going out, that is not at all what I bought. Instead, I have comfort and every day life on my mind when I hit the shops and this edit is all about the need for good stylish basics that make you feel good and that will be worn for years to come. Pretty, structured, sometimes worn dresses can wait.

Citizens of Humanity Ayla Jeans

Mid-rise and baggy…these two phrases are like music to my ears. I’ve decided that high-rise just accentuates the lower tummy pouch / and low rise…? Well I feel like that ship has sailed along with my youth. So mid rise for me please. And baggy while you’re at it because it feels nice to wear jeans that are comfy in a stylish way. Jeans sizing is an absolute minefield. I walked into the store wearing a Paige pair of jeans in a 25 and needed a 27 in these. So go figure. All I’m saying is, try and buy these in person if you can - otherwise, you’ll need to order a few pairs to find your size. I could have squeezed into a 26 but decided life is too short to be uncomfortable in any way shape or form. Let go of the number and size up to be comfortable I say. Also, when I got back to Sg I had these taken up just a smidge - so these are a great pair for the taller stature of our kind. I am 5’9”.

American Vintage Nenybay Sleeveless Jumper

My friend thought this was a waste of money “seriously though, when are you ever going to wear a sleeveless jumper? Either buy a jumper or don’t…you’ll never wear this.” Except, that weekend I wore it out to dinner with a white t-shirt underneath and I got complements from everyone. It’s absolutely divine. Soft slightly fluffy and boxy in shape. The perfect piece to throw on when it’s ever so slightly chilly but not yet cold (it was Spring in Melbourne so…obvs not Singapore). I will wear this in Melbourne and in summer in London and Europe. That sounds wanky - but that’s the expat life. We travel. And having pieces like this in our wardrobes are sensible.

Adidas Japan Sneakers

At this point there are about a million versions of these shoes - but the Japan ones are kind of special and whilst I didn’t actually buy these (I had shopping guilt for the number of bags I was carrying) I am eyeing these up and will likely buy them in the coming weeks. I am due a new pair of everyday city sneakers - so now I need to decide - classic? or the burgundy? Feel free to weigh into the debate.

American Vintage Sonoma Women’s Tshirt

When you love a brand and they do a great t-shirt, you buy it. Even if you already have white t-shirts. This one is really really nice. Soft and slouchy and a little oversized and boxy. It is the perfect ‘throw-on-with-jeans’ tshirt and is super soft. I want to say it’s almost like a very fine Terry towelling - but only on the inside. The outside is just a smooth cotton. Highly recommend if you are looking for a slightly oversized tee.

Pretty White Tee’s Terry Sweatshirt and Pants

Pretty White Tees is an L.A. brand (I used to stock it) and I love it for relaxed stylish basics. I have been looking for a while for a track set that I could wear while travelling long haul and for hanging out in cooler climes (Melbourne, I’m looking at you). This terry towelling set is an absolute delight to wear. The pants are long enough to sit bunched on your sneakers and the waist is elasticated for comfort. The top has a great cut that is neither too slouchy and big, or tight and cropped. It sits perfectly on the waist. I felt very lovely wearing this on the way back from Melbourne and I also slipped it on every night while I was there for end of the day comfort.

See below for link to track pants.

Boden T-Bar Chain Necklace

A cheapy but a goodie if you are looking for a slightly chunky t-bar necklace - reminiscent of the style we wore and loved when I was 16. Fashion is on a loop that is for sure. This t-bar necklace being back in vogue fits with the rugby shirt, leather loafers look which is all over the UK and Europe at the moment. And all of it harks back to my late teens. I should have kept it all! In this image, it looks like it’s really long - but don’t be fooled. It sits perfect just on the collarbone. Perfect for a t-shirt or shirt.

Cos Asymmetric Fluid Midi Skirt

I missed out on buying this skirt during the summer when it was in stock in Australia…never mind, you just need to wait a month or two and it will appear in the shops in Australia. So when I saw it in Cos Melbourne, I snapped it up. Like so many Cos pieces - I love this skirt for its fluid mid length and the price point is always good. A lovely fabric that feels soft and nice to wear. This is a wardrobe staple and I’ll be wearing it with the Boden necklace, the Japan sneakers and that American Vintage t-shirt. Done.

By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder

A few months ago I was in Mecca with my Mum and the lovely makeup artist used a blurry powder on her. It looked so good and I was slightly amazed by its blurry power! So while I was back in Melbourne I scooped one up for me. It has no colour - you just kind of dust it lightly on your face once you’ve finished with all the creamy stuff - foundation, concealer, blush etc. It really does kind of blur stuff out - like pesky pores and leaves you looking like you have better skin than you do. Plus, sometimes all the creamy upon creaminess of my face makeup feels like it could do with a little dulling - and this does that beautifully.
