the room review

A fresh pair of eyes on a room that isn’t quite working.

How it Works

  • Tell me about your room

Once you’ve booked, I’ll send you a questionnaire along with a simple guide to the photographs, video and measurements I’ll need. This is your chance to tell me how you use the room, what’s bothering you about it, what needs to stay and what you’d like to change.

  • A quick chat

We’ll have a brief call so I can clarify anything from your questionnaire and make sure I’ve properly understood the room and what you’re hoping to achieve.

  • I get to work

I’ll spend some time considering the room as a whole and put together my recommendations - what’s working, what isn’t and what I would change.

  • Your Room Review arrives

You’ll receive your personalised Room Review as a PDF, with my thoughts on the room, the changes I think would make the biggest difference and the areas I think you should prioritise. I’ll also point you towards some of the shops, makers and sources I’d look at myself for the pieces your room may need.

I’ll send this ahead of our final consultation so you have time to read through it and gather your thoughts.

  • We talk it through

We’ll finish with a call of up to 45 minutes. I’ll talk you through my thinking, explain the why behind my recommendations and answer any questions you have about putting the changes into practice.

What You’ll Receive

Following my review of your room, you’ll receive a personalised PDF setting out my thoughts and recommendations.

Depending on the space, this might include advice around furniture placement, scale and proportion, lighting, rugs and soft furnishings, colour, artwork and styling accessories, along with what I would keep, move, remove or add. I’ll also highlight the changes I think you should prioritise, so you have a clear idea of where to start.

Where useful, I’ll include visual references to help illustrate the type, scale, material or style of piece I think would work and you’ll also receive a list of shops, makers and other sources I’d recommend exploring for the types of pieces we’ve discussed - giving you a useful starting point for any new purchases you’d like to make.

A note on Sourcing

My approach to interiors has always been to find the right piece rather than simply the easiest one to buy. In Singapore, I often source furniture, lighting and accessories from overseas, independent makers and specialist retailers, and generally prefer fewer, better pieces that give a home some individuality.

For that reason, The Room Review doesn’t include a shopping list of specific products. Instead, I’ll give you clear direction on what I think you should be looking for - including style, size material and other details where relevant.

If you’d like my help sourcing particular pieces following your Room Review, we can discuss this separately. I’ll ask about budget and whether you’re happy to consider buying from overseas - including the additional shipping costs this can involve - before taking on any sourcing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • If my room is an open living area that includes a dining and entrance area, will the Room Review include all the open space?

Yes. If the spaces are all connected and effectively form one room, all areas will be included in the review. In fact, the Room Review is perhaps most useful for living spaces as these tend to be the rooms that have the greatest number of furniture and decoration pieces to get right.

  • Can I ask for a Room Review of any room in my home?

Yes you can, although it is best used for rooms where there are freestanding pieces of furniture and elements of decoration to consider (bathrooms and kitchens generally have fixed cabinetry with fewer elements able to be changed).

  • Do you ever decline working with a client based on the room?

Yes. If I don’t believe I can offer value to your home, I will let you know. I would rather be honest about my ability to offer value than to accept helping where I believe not many changes are needed. In this scenario, we will have a call and I’ll let you know why I don’t think your room needs my help.

  • Do you provide a shopping service if I need to buy new items?

In general, no. The Room Review is not designed to provide a specific list of items to shop. Rather, it offers guidance on what any new items should be including their size, material, colour, form etc plus a list of retailers or makers that I would recommend you use to source items.

  • My home is not in Singapore, is the Room Review available to me?

Yes it is. As this is a virtual service, I can offer you advice even if your home is not in Singapore.
